Ms.Taketa Anderson has been teaching 12th-grade English at Dutchtown High School for the past eight years. She holds a Master’s degree in Teaching and a Bachelor’s in English from Kennesaw State University. Enthusiastic about fostering creativity, she incorporates interactive projects and multimedia to make literature exciting and relatable for every student.
Outside the classroom, Ms. Anderson serves as the Senior Sponsor, guiding students through their senior activities and ensuring they have memorable experiences. She enjoys being a part of their journey and celebrating their achievements. Her passion for supporting students is matched only by her love for community involvement and helping others succeed.
My teaching philosophy centers on preparing students for success both in and out of the classroom. I focus on developing students’ writing skills while also encouraging them to think critically about their future post-secondary options. I believe that strong communication skills are essential for navigating life beyond high school, and I strive to create a classroom environment where students feel confident in expressing their ideas and preparing for the next steps in their educational and professional journeys. Outside the classroom, Mr. Jefferson enjoys supporting student activities such as sporting events and spending time with family. He believes in fostering a growth mindset often quoting Carol Dweck, “No matter what your ability is, effort is what ignites that ability and turns it into accomplishment.”

She holds a Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction (Piedmont University), a Master of Arts in English (Georgia State University), and a Bachelor’s degree in English (University of West GA) and is certified in middle grades and secondary English and Gifted instruction. Passionate about hands-on learning, she incorporates interactive activities and technology to make English engaging and accessible for all students. Outside the classroom, Ms. Johnson is earning an Educational Doctorate Degree (Ed. D) in Educational Leadership at Georgia State University and enjoys crafting and reading.

Ms. Vanessa Leverett has been teaching English Language Arts at Dutchtown High School for the past three years. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from “Thee Unsinkable” Albany State University with a minor in Professional Writing and a Master’s degree in Post-Secondary Education from Troy University with a concentration in Foundations of Education. Ms. Leverett is certified in secondary education and is Gifted endorsed. She is an advocate for the children thereby making sure she builds relationships with all students she encounters and ensures that the learning environment is conducive and engaging for every child to grasp knowledge. She is an avid educator who has a passion for creativity, poetry, and various types of literature. She teaches in hopes of transcending the same passion to her students. From Shakespeare to real-world knowledge, Ms. Leverett firmly believes that all children should be equipped with infinite teachable moments that will prepare them to be productive citizens and life-long learners upon matriculating the real world post graduation.
Outside the classroom, Ms. Leverett enjoys spending time with her family and fellowshipping with friends and college mates. She loves to travel, write, watch Jeopardy, journal, attend mini concerts, and is a movie fanatic for timeless classics and horror. and be of service to others when she can. Community philanthropy has always been at the forefront of who she is. She enjoys learning about all things cultural and loves to attend festivals celebrating all walks of life. Ms. Leverett loves to explore nature in warmer weather, and has a new-found curiosity for photography.
To create a safe and conducive learning environment where students are free to steer their own learning through imagination, curiosity, self-expression, experiences, and relevance. My belief is that where they are willing to learn, they will inevitably grow.

Academically speaking, Dr. Gladys Ngezem holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, M.A. in English, B.A. in English, is Gifted certified, and AP certified. Professionally, Dr. Ngezem has taught both in college and in secondary education, including Dutchtown high where she has taught several courses such as World literature, British literature, American literature and Study skills for more than a dozen years.
Predicated on a students-centered approach, a nurturing and caring classroom in which challenges are boldly faced, where students engage in both individual and team work and freely share their thoughts, Dr. Ngezem sees a teacher as a reflective and knowledgeable professional who is open to self-evaluation, to new knowledge, to strategies, and to change.Her classes invite and challenge students to think logically, creatively, analytically, synthetically, and abstractly, as they engage literature as the imaginative recreation of human experiences and writing as the pegs on which ideas hang.

Dr. Cheryll Thompson-Smith has taught American Literature and Honors American Literature at Dutchtown High School for the past four years. She holds a Doctorate in Language and Literacy from Georgia State University. She is certified in middle grades and secondary education, AP English Literature, AP English Language, gifted education, and reading endorsed.
Outside the classroom, Dr. Thompson-Smith is the MTSS co-chair, a member of the literacy committee, and on the instructional leadership team. She has presented nationally at the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and led professional development nationally and locally. She believes in building students’ communication skills to effectively navigate both professional and personal spaces.
Passionate about critical literacy, writing, and students’ ability to read the word and the world, Dr. Thompson-Smith intentionally and purposefully integrates student-centered learning, close reading, and gamification to make English to make science engaging, accessible, and relevant for all students.

Mr. Garlapati’s teaching philosophy centers around the belief that every student is capable of success when provided with the right support, encouragement, and tools. Outside the classroom, Mrs. Gilmore enjoys entertaining her family and friends. She believes in being positive because it generates happiness and learning. Mr. Jason Hardeman has been teaching high school math at Dutchtown High School for the past 11 years. Prior to that, he taught at Jackson High for 8 years and Mt. Zion High for 6 years. He holds a Master’s degree in Technology Integration in the Classroom from Nova Southeastern University, Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Mathematics from Southeastern University, and is certified in Special Education. He is passionate about breaking down complex concepts and making them accessible to students. This passion leads to innovative ways to teach, like using real-world applications or interactive technology to make math more engaging. He feels fulfilled by making math approachable and enjoyable.
Outside the classroom, Mr. Hardeman is the Children’s pastor at Trinity Chapel in McDonough. He loves spending time with his family, whether at home or exploring the town. In his free time, he enjoys learning magic tricks, watching WWE, playing video games, and solving his rubik’s cube.

Outside the classroom, Mrs. Moore is a teacher leader and co-sponsor of the school’s Beta Club. She enjoys biking and traveling. Mrs. Moore believes in building confidence, often quoting Theodore Roosevelt: “Believe you can, and you’re halfway there”.
Mrs. Moore firmly believes that all students have the capacity to learn and succeed. I'm Ms. Raje, a dedicated Calculus teacher at Dutchtown High School, passionate about making mathematics engaging and accessible for all students. With extensive experience teaching various math courses, I emphasize conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and student success.
My philosophy centers around a culture of feedback, where students receive timely guidance to enhance their learning. I integrate teacher and peer feedback to strengthen mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills. Additionally, I analyze AP, EOC, and EOPA data to support student achievement and curriculum development.

My name is Antonio L. Wesley, Sr. and this is my 19th year in education. I graduated from Mount de Sales Academy in Macon, Georgia during my high school years and earned a full scholarship to Middle Tennessee State University to play football. I later transferred to Valdosta State University in 2000. I graduated from VSU in 2004 and started working for Lowndes County Schools in 2006. This is my eighth year at Dutchtown High School and I am glad to be apart of the "Dutchtown Family" and learning the Dutchtown way. I am also the Running Backs coach for the varsity football team, Head Middle School Flag Football and Head High School Flag Football coach. In addition to athletics I also serve as the Freshman/Sophomore Class sponsor as well as teaching Mathematics for DHS. I met my wife while attending college and we were married in 2006. We have two beautiful kids that also attend Dutchtown High School and a four-year old son.
My philosophy of education is a student–centered one. I believe it is my professional duty to educate, motivate, and deliver the best pedagogical practices within my power to enable students to simply learn. Education is one of the most important factors in the evolution of both the individual and society. I feel that it is my duty and honor to give all students an equal opportunity to add value to their lives. I will accomplish my goals by adding rigor and relevance to my lessons and by teaching students in a safe, organized environment in order for them to learn and excel. Ms. Cheryl McClendon has been teaching Physical Science for the past three years. Outside the classroom, Ms. McClendon co-sponsors the school’s SOV (Sisters of Virtue) club. Her hobbies include reading, traveling, spending time with family, singing, and attending sports events.
My philosophy is that every classroom has its own unique community; my role as the teacher will be to assist each child in developing their own learning abilities to become lifelong learners. Biography: Kirit Patel, known as Mr. Patel for his students, has been teaching Chemistry from 2015 in US, and from 2019 in Dutchtown High School. He holds master’s degree in chemistry and certified in secondary education. Chemistry is a subject that he has studied, practiced, taught, and enjoyed over the last 35 years. His effective teaching involves time, dedication, patience, understanding, firmness, and a sense of humor.
Outside the Classroom he is the school science fair coordinator supervises and coordinates all activities associated with the science fair and helping students to exhibit strong knowledge of science and science research.
Teaching Philosophy: My teaching philosophy is straightforward teaching your students as you would want to be taught with enthusiasm, and with a passion for the subject combined with respect and understanding for the student. Guiding students through the maze of chemical symbols, equations and concepts can only be accomplished by giving the students the means and opportunity to take charge of their own learning reinforced by an appropriate reward system. My focus is to teach in a way that will reach all my students.

Mrs. Sechrist has taught middle and high school sciences for 10 years. From DMS to DHS she calls the Dutchtown cluster her school home. Currently Mrs. Sechrist teaches biology in the Ninth Grade Academy (NGA). Mrs. Sechrist completed her teacher education with a minor/major in science and mathematics at Clayton State. She holds a masters degree in post secondary education from Troy University and a specialist in education degree from the University of Georgia. Currently she is working toward her doctorate in curriculum and instruction at Valdosta State University. Mrs. Sechrist draws from her experience in teaching 8th grade at DMS and upperclassmen at DHS to provide a nurturing environment for our 9th grade students in the Ninth Grade Academy to transition from middle school to high school successfully.
Mrs. Sechrist sponsors the Senior Academic Mentor (SAM) program which allows seniors to model the Dutchtown Way to our ninth grade students. The seniors are involved in helping the students to understand high school life. She also co-sponsors the Senior Beta Club and the GSA.
“Find something that you love to do, and you will never work a day in your life.” This quote epitomizes my experience every day that I come to school. Students are naturally curious about science phenomena. They generate questions and then discover answers through a hands-on approach. At times my classroom looks like a Montessori school because I believe that students should experience their science. In this way, leading and facilitating student-centered learning, I hope to spark the love of science in my students.

Ms. Della Cayson has been teaching U.S. History at Dutchtown High School for the past three years. She holds an B.S. in Business Administration (with an emphasis in Management, Marketing, and MIS), and a minor in African American Studies from Indiana State University. Additionally, she earned an M.S. in Foundations of Secondary Education from Troy University.
The objectives of her instruction include:
- Developing students' ability to think like historians by analyzing historical causes and effects to excel in the course and on the End-of-Course (EOC) exam.
- Enhancing communication skills to help students express themselves effectively as young adults.
- Promoting cultural understanding.
- Providing practical benefits by fostering listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills within the context of U.S. History.

Dr. Ira A. Davis is a dedicated Social Studies educator at Dutchtown High School in Hampton, Georgia. With a strong commitment to academic excellence and student development, Dr. Davis teaches courses in Honors Economics, Personal Financial Literacy, and AP Macroeconomics. His instructional schedule is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of economic principles and their real-world applications. Beyond his classroom responsibilities, Dr. Davis actively contributes to the school community by advising student organizations that promote cultural awareness and leadership. He serves as the faculty advisor for the African American Student Union, where he guides students in exploring African American history, culture, and contemporary issues. Dr. Davis holds a Doctorate in Education and has been recognized for his contributions to the academic community. Mr. John Davis has been teaching for 24 years. He has joined Dutchtown High School after serving over 15 years at Dutchtown Middle School teaching 8th grade Georgia Studies. He holds a Bachelor's degree in History from Savannah State University, a Masters degree in Counseling/Psychology from Troy University, another masters degree in Middle Grades Education from Mercer University, and an Educational Specialist degree in Instructional Technology from the University of West Georgia. Mr. Davis is also Gifted certified K-12.
Outside the classroom, Mr. Davis enjoys traveling and listening to all genres of music. He believes in fostering curiosity and confidence, and building relationships with students helping them to reach their future goals. He often quotes the saying: “He who angers you, conquers you!”.
Teaching is more than imparting knowledge; it is about inspiring change, learning more than facts, it is about understanding. Students learn when they feel welcomed, comfortable and safe.

Dr. Santha Jetty has been teaching at Dutchtown High School for the past five years. Dr. Jetty originally hails from India where she obtained her Master of Arts, and Master of Philosophy degrees from the University of Hyderabad, and the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in History from the JMI Central University with a globally published academic work. Additionally, Dr. Jetty did her Bachelor of Education in Social Studies and Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Leadership from Columbus State University, Georgia. At Dutchtown High School, Dr. Jetty teaches Personal Finance and Economics, Personal Financial Literacy, and World History.
Dr. Jetty emphasizes student engagement teaching methods and active learning strategies. This includes collaborative learning, project work, and applying knowledge in real-world scenarios. By fostering an interactive learning environment, Dr. Jetty encourages students to take ownership of their learning and develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. These approaches not only enhance student involvement but also bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and practical application, ensuring that students are better prepared for challenges beyond the classroom.
Outside of her professional time, Dr. Jetty engages in community and nonprofit outreach activities and likes to contribute to society’s welfare with her knowledge and skills.

Ms. Shine is a Fall 2009 graduate of Albany State University. There she earned her bachelor's degree in middle grades education with concentrations in language arts and social studies. She has since earned a master's degree in instructional technology and will complete her education specialist degree in instructional technology in May 2025.
Since graduating from Albany State, Ms. Shine has worked as a middle and high school teacher in both Houston County and Henry County School Districts teaching in the areas of language arts and social studies. She has been a part of the Dutchtown cluster since 2013, starting at Dutchtown Middle School. She served many roles as grade level department chair and academic department chair. In 2017, Ms. Shine was nominated and named Dutchtown Middle School's Teacher of the Year. This is currently her 4th year as a teacher at Dutchtown High School.
Outside of the classroom, Ms. Shine has served as a club sponsor for her school's dance and step team, as well as assistant coach for softball and head coach for varsity cheerleading and gymnastics. In recognition of these efforts, she has been nominated for Coaches' Choice Coach of the Year and Female Sport Coach of the Year. Last year she was awarded the inaugural Henry County Schools Gymnastics Coach of the Year for her role in supporting the growth of the sport in Henry County Athletics.
Learning is an experience. Most people want to skip the process not knowing that when you skip steps you miss the lessons. If you start small and build on what you have you can continue to multiply that into something greater.

She is a very engaged and supportive teacher who focuses on providing clear guidance during classroom instruction. Additionally, She believes that clear explanations, guided practice, and organized lessons are essential for student success.
Outside the classroom, Ms. Hicks leads the school’s Spanish National Honor Society.
In her free time, she enjoys gardening, interior decorating, and watching sports.

She began her career as a student teacher in 1992 and has been a Dutchtown Bulldog since 2008. Throughout her career, she has had the pleasure of teaching students of all ages and abilities, from Kindergarten through Adult Education. She has taught English As A Second Language, Middle School Exploratory Spanish, Spanish I-IV, Spanish For Native Speakers courses, and Advanced Program Spanish. During her 32 year career, Ms. Nagel has had the honor of being a presenter at local, state, and national teacher conferences. She has also had the pleasure of sponsoring and coaching a variety of extra-curricular activities. Among them were Academic Team, Competition Dance Team, Spanish Club, International Club, Culture Club, and Ambassador Club. Throughout the years, she has involved her students in extra-curricular experiences such as being in parades, going on cultural field trips, performing in cultural shows, and competing in academic competitions such as The Henry County World Language Fair. She is passionate about teaching and looks forward to coming to school each day, being among young minds brings her much joy and has kept her young.
Outside the classroom: Ms Nagel is a well-traveled mother, wife, and animal lover who enjoys family and friends, nature walks, boating, historical tours, traveling, exploring the outdoors, and eating out. Ms. Nagel is a traditionalist whose tried and true old school methodology incorporates hands-on and interactive learning strategies. Her philosophy is that through the acquisition of a second language our students become multilingual learners who, in turn, become productive global citizens.

Biography: Mr. Christian Solis recently joined the Dutchtown High School team of educators this past year. He is currently working on obtaining a Master’s degree from the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) as well as a certification in secondary education. Enthusiastic about hands-on learning, he integrates a variety of activities, projects, and more to make Spanish and its culture engaging and accessible to all students.
Outside the classroom, Mr. Solis is always coming up with more fun ways to teach students. During his free time he also enjoys reading, drawing, and hanging out with friends. He believes in fostering curiosity, fun, and confidence, often quoting Albert Einstein: “Play is the highest form of research.”
My philosophy centers on fostering a supportive, inclusive learning environment where each student is encouraged to explore, question, and grow. I believe in empowering students through creativity, critical thinking, and building strong relationships that promote lifelong learning.

Mr. David Cheeks is an Army Veteran, having served as a Combat Medic for over 23 years. He holds a Master's Degree in Public Health specializing in Healthcare Administration from National University and is a certified Emergency Medical Technician and Basic Life Support Instructor. Mr. Cheeks is passionate about hands-on learning. He integrates experiments and technology to make science engaging and accessible to all students.
Mr. Cheeks leads the school’s Future Healthcare Occupations of America (HOSA) organization outside the classroom. He passionately promotes nurturing curiosity and confidence, often quoting Frederick Douglass: “If there is no struggle, there is no progress.” This highlights the importance of embracing challenges as essential for growth and achievement.

Coach Owens began his teaching career in 2006. He holds a Master’s degree in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon University and a B.S. in Business Administration (with an emphasis in Marketing). Coach Owens is certified in Business Education 6-12 and Special Education K-12. He is passionate about project based learning and integrating real world scenarios to make his student College and Career Ready.
Outside of the classroom, Coach Owens is the Dutchtown Bulldogs Football Team’s Offensive Coordinator. He has been a part of 4 consecutive years of playoff appearances with a Semifinals appearance one of those years. For 2 years he has produced the Region’s Offensive Player of the Year.

Dr. Theresa Sikinyi has been teaching Agriscience Classes at Dutchtown High School for the past ten years. She holds a PhD in Agricultural Extension Education from Iowa State University and is certified in secondary education. Passionate about hands-on learning, she integrates science into her agricultural classes to show students how agriculture and science are interrelated and gives them an opportunity to see science in practice in the agricultural science context.
Outside the classroom, Dr. Sikinyi leads the school’s Dutchtown FFA Chapter encouraging students to explore their leadership potential by seeking opportunities that take them outside of their comfort zones so that they can grow. Her hobbies include swimming, travelling, and reading. She believes in fostering in her students the desire to keep on learning quoting John Dewey often: “The most important attitude that can be formed is that of the desire to go on learning”
I believe that students should be active participants in their learning making the educational experience their own by applying themselves to gain new skills and as a teacher I should provide practical experiences that help students to learn by doing, improve their problem-solving skills and prepare them to take their place in the agricultural industry.

She further solidified her expertise by earning her CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) certification.
In her teaching, Shenera strives to create an engaging and supportive learning environment, equipping students with practical skills and knowledge to excel in their academic and professional endeavors. She focuses on fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a passion for technology.
Beyond the classroom, Shenera coaches esports, combining her love for technology with mentoring students in teamwork, strategy, and competitive gaming.

Outside the classroom, Coach Haley loves the outdoors. She enjoys hiking, kayaking, riding bikes, fishing in the mountains, camping, riding her horses, and taking care of all of her animals! She is married and has 4 children, two of which went to Dutchtown, and one that is serving in the Army!

Ms. Martin got her education at Alabama State University as double major of Music Education and Music Performance with a focus on trumpet. She has been in music for over 13 years and is very passionate about education. She focuses on the importance of understanding the diction, theory, and history behind music.
Music is an integral part of education. It develops reading and writing skills, and enhances skills such as collaboration, problem solving, critical thinking, social skills, etc.

Dr. Whitley has been teaching Exceptional Student Education (ESE) at Dutchtown High School for six years and has a total of twelve years of teaching experience. Before transitioning to education, she served 10 years in the United States Air Force.
She holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction: Special Education, as well as an M.A. in Special Education, both from Liberty University.
Outside the classroom, Dr. Whitley is actively involved in community service organizations addressing local needs. She enjoys reading, writing, crafting, traveling, and cooking in her free time.
Dr. Whitley is dedicated to creating a dynamic and supportive learning environment that equips students for real-world success. Her educational philosophy centers on the belief that all children are unique and deserve a stimulating environment where they can grow mentally, emotionally, and socially. Dr. Whitley strives to cultivate such an atmosphere, enabling students to reach their full potential.
Her passion for teaching special education allows her to combine her love for education with her commitment to helping others. Dr. Whitley believes that every individual has the ability to learn, regardless of their unique challenges or disabilities.
