Dear Dutchtown High School Community,

It is with great excitement, deep respect, and a sense of honor that I introduce myself as the new principal of Dutchtown High School. I am truly humbled to join a school with such a proud tradition of academic excellence, student achievement, amazing staff and strong community engagement.

My name is Mr. Travis Chapman, and I bring with me 28 years of experience in education. My pathway to leadership began at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Systems and Design and a Master of Science degree in Education. I furthered my professional preparation with a certification in Curriculum and Instruction from North Carolina State University and a certification in Educational Leadership from the University of West Georgia.

Over the years, I have led initiatives centered on professional learning communities (PLCs), standards-based instruction, instructional coaching, and programs that improve student outcomes. My experiences have taught me the importance of building collaborative cultures, developing teacher capacity, and ensuring that every student has access to high-quality instruction.

What drew me to Dutchtown was not only its reputation for excellence, but also its unwavering commitment to its core values: Educate. Encourage. Empower. These words are more than just a motto; they reflect a shared vision that resonates deeply with my personal philosophy of leadership. As I begin this new chapter, my focus will be on strengthening instructional practices across all classrooms, supporting collaborative teacher teams, and increasing family and student engagement and ownership of learning. I believe in fostering an environment where expectations are clear, support is intentional, and excellence is the standard.

I look forward to working in partnership with our staff, students, families, and community members to build upon the strong foundation already in place. Together, we will continue to educate with purpose, encourage with compassion, and empower with confidence.

With commitment and enthusiasm,

Mr. Travis Chapman
